Chelsi Owens, MS CCC-SLP
It’s a pleasure to introduce our September Teletherapist Spotlight, Chelsi Owens. Chelsi has been with Unlimited Teletherapy for five years.
1. Tell me all about yourself.
I live in Southern Illinois. I’m married and I’ve got three children. Nine-year-old twins and a five-year-old little girl.
2. How long have you been with Unlimited Teletherapy?
I am going on my twelfth year in speech therapy, and my fifth year working for Unlimited Teletherapy.
3. What is your favorite part about working at Unlimited Teletherapy? What do you enjoy most?
I appreciate the flexibility of my job and the fact that I come from a small town. What I particularly enjoy is the opportunity to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. Each year, I have the privilege of working with new students, allowing me to gain insights into their cultures. This experience is mirrored in my role as a therapist as well, where I have the chance to work with other therapists in our field from various locations.
4. How did you get started in the industry?
I pursued my education with the clear goal of becoming a speech therapist. My journey began in nursing homes, followed by a transition to a hospital setting. Afterward, I worked in traditional brick-and-mortar schools and clinics before embracing teletherapy. For my undergraduate studies, I attended MSU, the University of Missouri. I then finished my graduate degree at SIU, Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.
5. What does a workday look like for you?
I typically have about eight sessions a day and my sessions are two to three students. I’d say on average, I see around twenty students a day. I have flexible scheduling, which is nice because I might have twenty students one day and three the next so I am able to balance it out. I also see a big variety of grades from kindergarten all the way up to eighth grade right now. I typically see middle school and high school students, but this year is a little different.
6. What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?
This is gonna be very telling of me, but I love watching The Real Housewives or documentaries on Netflix. I love documentaries!
7. What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I think that something on my bucket list would be to backpack through Europe or see several different cities in Europe at once.
Chelsi is one of many of our Teletherapists at Unlimited Teletherapy that is passionate, nurturing, and committed to supporting students to meet their individual goals. We are honored to have her on our team!
