Sarah Tigo, MS CCC-SLP
It’s a pleasure to introduce our August Teletherapist Spotlight, Sarah Tigo. Sarah has been with Unlimited Teletherapy since January 2021.
1. Tell me all about yourself.
I live on the Illinois side of the St. Louis area in Troy, Illinois. I grew up on a farm in this area. I have one daughter, and she is three. Her name is Lucy, and she is definitely running my life right now. All of our activities and schedules are based on what she is doing. My husband, Chris, works from home too. This is the first year we have both worked remotely. That has been a little bit of an adjustment, but it’s been nice.
2. How long have you been with Unlimited Teletherapy?
I started in January 2021, so 2 1/2 years. I love it, and it has been very flexible. The owners are great to work with, and they have a lot of support for us with the E-helpers.
3. What is your favorite part about working at Unlimited Teletherapy? What do you enjoy most?
I love what it has given me with the balance with my family especially because I still feel connected with the kids. We are still live on calls all day long. I was worried that socially it would feel isolated not being in a school, but being live for 6 hours a day, we are not missing any engagement. The time zone also allows me a later start time. I am able to let my daughter wake up on her own, maybe go for a walk, then get ready for school. I don’t have to deal with the general anxiety that the early mornings bring and being a working mom. The general flexibility is a huge push for people to go into the remote workforce. It would be hard to go back.
4. How did you get started in the industry?
I double majored in elementary education first, then speech pathology. Doing both was a lot of work, and I was put in the position to decide which route I wanted to go. With speech pathology, I love that we get small groups of kids rather than having 30 at a time, we get two to three. It is really ideal, and I am able to give the very best attention and focus to each of the kids.
5. What does a workday look like for you?
It really varies, but most of us do a four-heavy-day week, and Friday is our lighter day and it works out because a lot of students have early dismissal on Fridays. For four full days, I am on for six or more hours at a time. At most, I have seen 27 students in one day. On other days, I am still busy but devoting my time to special needs kids that need one-on-one attention. The lighter days are typically for reporting, evaluations, billing, and make-up sessions for absent students. I am at two different districts and I am fortunate enough to have an E-helper at both districts.
6. What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?
I am in the middle of two different types of books right now, but the main one is Queen of Thieves by Beezy Marsh. It has been really entertaining. It reminds me of the Peaky Blinders series. I am also watching Your Honor. It is intensely dramatic, but good!
7. What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I love traveling. The sky is the limit! It would be cool to see the Seven Wonders of the World. On a realistic bucket list, I would love to stay at one of the overwater bungalows in Fiji.
Sarah is one of many of our Teletherapists at Unlimited Teletherapy that is passionate, nurturing, and committed to supporting students to meet their individual goals. We are honored to have her on our team!
