April Teletherapist Spotlight Hannah Costa, MS CCC-SLP

Hannah Costa, MS CCC-SLP

It is a pleasure to introduce our March Teletherapist spotlight, Hannah Costa. Hannah has been with Unlimited Teletherapy going on almost four years.

1. Tell me all about yourself.

I grew up on a ranch outside of Clayton, New Mexico. I lived there until I graduated high school, then I went to New Mexico State University for my Bachelor’s and started off right away going into speech therapy. That’s what I decided to do right out of high school. I graduated with my bachelor’s in three years and then went to get my Masters at Eastern New Mexico University. I currently live in Logan, New Mexico. I have a husband and two little kids. My daughter is four, and my son is one and a half.

2. How long have you been with Unlimited Teletherapy?

In May, it will be my fourth year working for Unlimited Teletherapy. I started a year after my daughter was born. I first started in early intervention therapy and then worked at Tucumcari Public Schools. I had known Danny from my time in Colfax County, and he asked me if I would like to join the team. I was so thankful because I was having various babysitter issues, and it was just a gift from God to be offered a job where I could work from home.

3. What is your favorite part about working at Unlimited Teletherapy? What do you enjoy most?

I get to be home and flexible, but I still get to cover all these districts that I would never have been able to cover living in a very rural New Mexico town. Despite living in the middle of nowhere, I still get to use my career to its full potential. Danny, Keely, and Nancy, they’re all SLPs. It’s an SLP-ran company, so they understand our questions or concerns, caseload numbers, or evaluation numbers. It’s very helpful to have that understanding of the career itself instead of just ran by some corporation. You do your job better when you’re being taken care of, and burnout is less than in other jobs.

4. How did you get started in the industry?

I grew up on a ranch, so animals and agriculture have my heart, but my mom told me right away, don’t get an ag business degree because she did. She went back and became a teacher, and I knew I didn’t want to be a teacher, but I wanted something where I could live somewhere rural and still have options like a hospital or school, or early intervention. Johnna Kimble, who also works for Unlimited Teletherapy, had talked to me, and she was the SLP at Clayton Municipal Schools when I was growing up and my babysitter when I was little. She talked to me about it and informed me that the money was better than being a teacher. As an 18-year-old, I was like, okay, this is what I want to do, and I stuck with it. I think it’s worked out because here I am today!

5. What does a workday look like for you?

It really depends on the day. My Monday mornings are packed, but the afternoon is filled with meetings. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, my days are packed full with students all day because I have an E-Helper available. Wednesdays are the days that I cover Roy and Mosquero, and they’re tiny districts, so I only have a few students on those days.
I go in person twice a month to Roy and Mosquero, so it’s nice to see my students in person. Some days I see up to 20 students back to back, and others, less. I think everybody’s schedules vary on what works best for their districts. On Fridays, I try not to schedule as much to catch up on evaluations and paperwork.

6. What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?

I don’t really watch TV very often, but my husband and I do like all the Taylor Sheridan shows, like Yellowstone and 1923. My favorite author right now is Kristin Hannah. I think she’s really good. She’s easy to read and relatable. Also, one of my favorite books is “Where the Crawdads Sing.”

7. What’s one thing on your bucket list?

A goal of mine is to see all the states in the United States. I feel like we should do that since we live here. I am also going to Alaska this summer on a cruise with my family, and I am really looking forward to that. I want to spend as much time with my family and go on trips with them as I can.

Hannah is one of many of our Teletherapists at Unlimited Teletherapy that is passionate, nurturing, and committed to supporting students to meet their individual goals. We are honored to have her on our team!
